Cacao is a sacred, ancestral, heart-opening medicine that is coming back into our awareness as we, as a collective, re-learn and remember how to heal. In ceremony, my flow with cacao is through the shamanic journey. First, we create a safe container by sharing a piece of ourselves and calling in the directions, committing to the space and to each other—committing to the journey. We are cleansed and purified with copal and palo santo in a traditional sahumación, and we then prepare the psyche and the body to receive the medicine. Cacao is allowed to work through us and within us as we are guided on a shamanic journey to connect with the plant spirit. After sharing our experiences and allowing ourselves to be witnessed, there is space for integration through musical expression with traditional medicine songs and drumming.

Engaging with cacao in ceremony is an opportunity to dive deep while being held by community. Where three or more are gathered, the prayers are multiplied. When we sit together consciously and intentionally, big magic can happen and big medicine can be received.
